On most authentic vintage Oakley X Metal sunglasses there is a unique serial number which identifies the item. On the early generations of Oakley X Metal sunglasses a serial number was used with a prefix which identifies the frame and lens color combination, a combination of letters and numbers used from inception through 2004 as as shown on our Vintage Oakley Sunglasses Serial Numbers Page 1. The final generation of original Oakley X-Metal sunglasses had numerical model numbers that differed in format from the original X Metal serial numbers but were nevertheless useful in combatting counterfeits and helping consumers make informed choices. Used until 2007 these numerical formats more in the form of SKUs were used until all of the remaining Oakley X Metal lines stopped using any serial numbers and were soon discontinued.
