Vintage Ray-Ban 12k gold filled aviator sunglasses feature rare Bausch & Lomb top gradient mirror lenses and "The General" brow bar designed to improve the balance of the sunglasses on your face and popularized by General Douglas MacArthur in World War II. The rare top gradient mirror lenses are heavily mirrored at the top of the aviator style lens transitioning to a normal B&L RB-3 green lens at the bottom, a flash mirror coating applied via a technology pioneered by Bausch & Lomb and standing the test of time. These lenses were adopted by pilots around the world following their introduction in the 1950s, perfect for reflecting glare when looking out of the cockpit windshield into the sun but allowing more visible light to penetrate when looking down at the airplane's instrument panel. The unisex B&L Ray-Ban 12k gold filled frame measures approximately 5.375" temple to temple, and the lenses measure approximately 2.25" x 1.875" at the widest points. The top of the nose bridge is marked B&L Ray-Ban USA while the bottom of the bridge is marked B&L 1/1012k GF all impressed in the 12k gold plating, part of a fine collection of vintage Ray-Ban sunglasses from the 1960s and 1970s in London, England.
