1 Vintage Persol Ratti 9271 sunglasses c 1980s feature an amazing Italian yellow tortoise shell frame that is strikingly translucent in how light passes through and almost make them shimmer. You'll find the distinctive vintage Persol silver temple hinges and vertical etching on each of the ear stems, part of the Meflecto system that lets the frame mould itself to the shape of the wearer’s face to add comfort and stability of fit. The Meflecto system involves inserting 2 to 4 small cylinders into the acetate ear stem to give it flexibility, a craft manufacturing process exclusive to Persol. The unisex Italian frame measures approximately 5.675" temple to temple with brown Persol UV400 mineral glass lenses measuring approximately 2.0" x 1.375" at the widest points and lenses marked with the very discreet Persol mark in the glass. The inside of one ear stem is marked Persol Meflecto Ratti while the inside of the other stem is marked Made in Italy 9271 (worn) and one ear pad is impressed 80. 2 Identical in construction and appearance, these Persol 9271 yellow tortoise sunglasses were produced c late 1980s / early 1990s after Persol changed how they put model numbers on the Ratti manufactured frames to add more size information to the markings. These Persol Ratti 9271 sunglasses are identical in size, shape, and appearance to #1 and pictured below except that here one ear stem is marked Persol 9271 53 [] 19 (or sometimes marked Persol 09271/A) while the inside of the other stem is marked 147 80 Ratti Made in Italy.
