Vintage B&L Ray-Ban 12k GF aviator sunglasses c late 1940s - 1950s were the first military issue Ray-Ban aviator with distinctively high arched nose bridge in contrast to all future Ray-Ban aviators soon to be introduced and paired with Bausch & Lomb RB-3 Tru Green optical glass lenses. The B&L RB-3 lens was so named because it was "shade 3" in the line, a much greener lens than the iconic B&L G-15 lens and the original anti-glare optical glass lenses Bausch & Lomb produced for the US military. These are among the earliest production of vintage Ray-Bans, and the 12k gold filled frame wherein 1/10 of the metal in the frame was 12k gold and Tru Green lenses combine for one amazing example of vintage sunglasses that not only look great but also give you high quality optics. The unisex Ray-Ban military aviator frame measures approximately 5.25" temple to temple, and the teardrop aviator lenses measure approximately 2.25" x 1.875" at the widest points. The top of the nose bridge is impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA and the bottom of the bridge is impressed B&L 1/10 12k GF to signify the 12k gold filled frame and their highest quality gold plating. Not many of these survived the years especially that meet our very high condition standard so these are quite rare.
