1 Vintage Serengeti 5599 Quest sunglasses from the Kinetix collection feature a sleek, intricately etched black metal frame reminiscent of vintage B&L Ray-Ban Caravan sunglasses, but nobody is going to mistake these 5599 Quests for a Ray-Ban with the highly reflective and eye catching Serengeti Vermilion mineral glass lenses made by Corning Optics of Corning glass fame. Serengeti Vermilion lenses are "double gradient mirror and anti-reflection coated lenses" that set new standards for both looks and performance. Marketing literature from the period goes on to note that "their built-in Spectral Control filters sharpen images for extraordinary visibility and eye comfort in all daylight weather conditions", and they provide "extra high contrast in low, flat light, haze, rain or snow. In bright sunlight, the photochromatic lenses darken for superb glare protection, vision, and comfort, significantly cutting eye fatigue". The unisex Serengeti 5599 Quest frame measures approximately 5.675" temple to temple, and the Vermilion mirrored lenses measure approximately 2.375" x 1.75" at the widest points. You'll find the Serengeti logo integrated into the etching on the exterior of one ear stem, inside of one stem is marked Serengeti Eyewear while the inside of the other stem is marked Corning Optics while one ear pad is marked 5599V and the other pad is marked Frame Japan. Very rare.
