1 Vintage Vuarnet 027 Skilynx black glacier glasses, featured in the James Bond film Spectre, are one of the rarest designs produced during the golden years of Vuarnet sunglasses c 1980s, and they feature black leather side blinkers that rotate inward to permit folding of the sunglasses while rotating outward when wearing to protect your eyes from wind, snow, rain, and glare coming in from the sides. Vuarnet PX-4000 Skilynx lenses have silver double gradient filters on the fronts to absorb glare and have anti-reflective coatings on the backs to eliminate irritating bounce back light . They provide 100% protection against harmful ultraviolet radiation and enhance depth of field perception, tempered to provide excellent scratch and impact resistance and vacuum treated with multi-layered coatings. The outdoorsman or "shooter" ear stems loop over the ears to keep them on your face in even the most extreme conditions for the more secure fit possible, and each leather side blinker also has an elasticized safety line that goes around your neck in the event of a bad fall. The French nylon frame is designed so as not to stick to your skin in extreme cold conditions the way a metal frame would, and it also provides great flexibility and durability for active sports sunglasses. The unisex Vuarnet 027 frame measures approximately 5.5" temple to temple, and the Vuarnet Skilynx double gradient mirror lenses measure approximately 2.25" x 1.75" at the widest points with each lens laser etched with the Vuarnet "V on a Ski". The inside of one ear stem is impressed Frame France along with the Vuarnet crown mark and on some production one ear stem is marked 027. The exterior of one ear stem is embossed PX Vuarnet while the exterior of the other stem is embossed PX, part of the collection of a major European sports figure and long time customer of the Vintage Sunglasses Shop.

2 In the 2 years leading up to Vuarnet's sponsorship of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Vuarnet added the repeating star symbol of the 1984 Summer Olympics to the embossed PX on one ear stem while the other stem is still embossed PX Vuarnet. They are identical in size, appearance, and marks aside from tan leather side blinkers instead of the black leather blinkers in items vs347-1 and vs347-1A.

Note: Our vintage glacier glasses are all 25+ years old and even new old stock tends to develop minor tarnish on the metal rivets of the leather side blinkers. While it can be cleaned off with simichrome or an analogous product should you so desire, we don't do it because a lot of our clients and collectors like these signs of age.
