Persol 551 Ratti Tortoise Shell Sunglasses
1 Vintage Persol 551 sunglasses were from the highest end line produced at the famous Persol Ratti manufacturing facility reserved for only their top of the line styles. You'll note that the Persol 551 is a unique Italian interpretation of aviator sunglasses, one of the few Persol styles constructed with the inner metal frame visible through the translucent tortoise shell frame that it seems only the Italians can do with this kind of quality. The unisex Persol 551 frame measures approximately 5.375" temple to temple, and the lenses measure approximately 2.125" x 1.75" at the widest points with both lenses laser etched with the round Persol trademark. The top of the nose bridge is impressed Ratti in the metal strip sealed inside the translucent top frame, and the inside of one ear stem is marked 551 Persol Ratti while the inside of the other stem is marked 53 [] 17.
