Rare vintage Bausch & Lomb steampunk safety goggles c 1940s combine extra strong B&L green safety glass lenses with a very sturdy metal frame, and these pioneered the look of steampunk motorcycle goggles which is the typical use today of these and their twins the B&L Ful Vue goggles.The green glass side blinkers keep out wind, sunlight (and bugs) while protecting the eyes from the sides, and they swing on a hinge to close the glasses and conform to the face. It is quite unique how these glasses fold, for the front hinge rotates a full 180 degrees so they are hinged back for wearing and hinged forward for closing the glasses. If it were otherwise, they would not close with the side blinders in the way. Very unique. In contrast to B&L Ful Vue goggles, these are slightly earlier and include a green glass center panel over the nose. The curved Outdoorsman ear stems wrap securely around the ear, and each Bausch & Lomb lens measures approximately 1.75" x 1.65" at the widest points and will sometimes be etched either BL2 to indicate the B&L Shade 2 glass or with the trademark B&L triangle mark. These vintage Bausch & Lomb goggles measure approximately 5.125" temple to temple and are impressed on the back of the nose bridge 24 Bausch & Lomb 44, found as part of an estate in the warehouse of an Ohio contractor covered in dust and forgotten for 70 years.
