American Optical Ful Vue Sunglass Goggles
Vintage American Optical Ful Vue goggles are hugely popular today with bkers and motorsports enthusiasts - and people who just want to look uniquely cool - but they started life back in the first quarter of the 20th century and have stood the test of time. In the late 1920's, the American Optical Company (AO), the largest manufacturer of eyewear and prescription lenses in the world at the time, filed patents on their new "Ful-Vue" design. The Ful-Vue idea was to raise the point where the arms joined the frame, taking them up and out of the way of the wearer's side vision. This innovation came at the same time many Americans were driving cars for the first time and thus were also using rear view mirrors for the first time. American Optical was convinced that Americans would be safer wearing Ful-Vue frames since there would be no temple blocking the wearer's view of the rear view mirror. They also thought that Americans could be convinced they would be more attractive wearing Ful-Vue styles, with no "line drawn across the face" by the ear stems. The Outdoorsman shooter ear stems curl behind the ears for the most secure fit possible, and each metal stem is wrapped in supple rubber to keep the metal from sticking to your face even in the most extreme conditions. The unisex American Optical Ful Vue frame measures approximately 5.0" temple to temple, and the green rock crystal lenses measure approximately 1.875" x 1.675" at the widest points with both lenses laser etched at the top center with the AO mark from this era. One side of the rear of the nose bridge is impressed AO while the other side is impressed Ful Vue, amazing new old stock American Optical Ful Vue glasses in mint, unworn condition with the super rare metal American Optical goggles case.
