Persol Ratti 812 Black Folding Sunglasses
Vintage Persol 812 folding sunglasses are an engineering marvel of the 1980s, with an advanced folding design wherein they fold back at the center hinge and each ear stem folds at the hinge near halfway point of each ear stem. The end result is a compact package not much bigger than a single lens. The curved shape of Persol 812 sunglasses is a nice variation from typically more angular folding styles, and the black frame looks great with the brown Persol mineral glass lenses. These Persol Ratti 812 sunglasses were produced in Persol's Ratti manufactury reserved for their highest quality production and feature the Meflecto system unique to vintage Persol sunglasses. The Persol Meflecto system system consists of tiny cylinders inserted by a craftsman process into the ear stems to render them flexible, thereby assuring maximum comfort and snugness of fit. Persol marketing literature from the period notes that the Meflecto system offers "excellent functionality and perfect fitting to the wearer's face" along with a "smart design and exceptional solidity of construction". The unisex Persol 812 frame measures approximately 5.25" temple to temple, and the lenses measure approximately 1.875" x 1.675" at the widest points with both lenses laser etched with the round trademark Persol logo. The inside of one stem is marked Persol Meflecto Ratti and the ear pad is impressed 812, and the inside of the other stem is marked Made in Italy.
